  • Belfast city centre’s Custom House Square- 20 new jobs.

Twenty new jobs have been created through the opening of a new café and restaurant at Custom House Square in Belfast city centre. Café on the Square has been developed by DASC Construction, who specialise in all building works from new builds and renovations to full developments and commercial fitouts.

The high-end café and restaurant is located on the ground floor commercial unit of the Custom House Square Residence Development, which comprises eight floors and 84 apartments, as well as 45 car park spaces.

Despite the building being completed in 2009, Café on the Square is the first tenant to occupy the ground floor unit, and is now open for business daily from 7am.

Head Chef David Knox, who previously worked for a number of fine dining restaurants in the Channel Islands, has devised sophisticated and contemporary breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, using first-rate, local produce exclusively.

Michael Campbell, general manager of Café on the Square, commented: “It is fantastic to become the first tenants at the Custom House Square Residence restaurant unit, set in the heart of Belfast’s cultural and entertainment sphere.

“The location for this venture is perfect and boasts beautiful surroundings, as well as benefitting from the significant footfall of the nearby Cathedral Quarter.

“Belfast now boasts a fantastic range of high-quality restaurants, and we are confident that Café on the Square will be a welcome addition to the rich mix that is already currently on offer in the city centre.”

Tyrone man Shane Corr, director at DASC Construction, added: “DASC Construction has successfully delivered many developments similar to Café on the Square right across the UK, and we believe there is a real gap in the market for an eatery of this quality to land in the area.

“We wanted to make a positive contribution to the area, not only for the residents in the Custom House Square Residence Development, but also for local businesses, students and tourists who find themselves within close proximity to the Café every day.

“Furthermore, we are also pleased to announce that 20 jobs have been created in the opening of the restaurant.”
