Angels seek inspiring wantrepreneurs for £10k Dragons’ Den Pitch

  • Aspiring entrepreneurs in the Lisburn Castlereagh area are being invited to pitch their business ideas to a panel of dragons to mark the start of Global Entrepreneurship Week. 

    ‘Inspire Business Angel Investment’ is putting up an investment fund of £10k plus a package of training, marketing and development advice for the Council area’s most promising start-up ideas.

    A call is going out to budding entrepreneurs to sign up for the selection process via the Inspire Business Centre, Dundonald, website at by the deadline of 11th October. 

    Dr Mark Brotherston, CEO of Inspire Business Centre, said: “We at Inspire are keen to actively support the proposition that contemporary angel investment is a key ingredient in enabling a successful rebalancing of the Northern Ireland economy. 

    “Our aim in launching Inspire Business Angel Investment is to encourage entrepreneurship by facilitating access to the right funding at the right time, coupled with the expertise of an external network of external angel investors.

    “So, if you live in the Lisburn Castlereagh area and have a great idea for an inspiring new product, service or innovation with the potential to become a great business, we want to hear about it.” 

    Alderman William Leathem, Chairman of the Council’s Development Committee said Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council was pleased to support the launch of the new initiative from Inspire. 

    He said: “Inspire Business Angel Investment is a great opportunity for individuals to develop their pitching skills and secure investment. Today, more people than ever are choosing self-employment as a viable career option, for reasons such as the freedom and flexibility it provides. 

    “As the number of people working in the self-employed sector has grown, so too has its importance to the Northern Ireland economy. I am looking forward to hearing the business ideas that are being brought forward as part of this initiative to secure an investment fund of £10,000.” 

    Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and have a Business Plan and 2-year Financial Projection – however, if you don’t already have these documents, Inspire Business Centre can help you to compile them.

    The top business ideas will be invited to a networking event at Inspire’s offices on 25th October, with the most promising then asked to pitch for investment in a Dragon’s Den-type final at Lagan Valley Island, Lisburn, on Monday, 12th November.

    Global Entrepreneurship Week (12th-18th Nov) is the world’s largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch start-ups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.
